Stand design for the exhibition "The Imprint of Civilization: Book Culture in Literary China (900-1900 AD)"

The exhibition presented a challenge: 52 book reproductions, not a single original; the exhibits were visually similar, their content - in Chinese. Our solution: to turn the viewing process of the exhibition itself into an adventure.
Inspired by Chinese puzzles and traditional book-binding, we created metal stands with movable wooden planes, with the books carefully embedded in the planes. Thus visitors could leaf through the books, and by sliding the plane they would reveal the story of a particular book.
This exhibition was created for the National Library of Latvia exhibition halls that are transparent spaces with a lot of daylight. We designed the exhibition stands to look light, dynamic and transparent to emphasise the visual characteristics of the exhibition space.
